As good as I could possibly imagine my life getting, it did After I met you The way you reached inside my chest and pulled out things and sent them off in breaths blew And as good as it got with all the layers peeling off, and though I writhed I could not upset you With your hand down my throat you held on to my heart and pumped blood through And then “it’s time to go” you said, “it’s time to go out You little gray goose Get out from under my wing” you said “you swan go on go out you're turned loose” Oh! so it’s over Oh! so we died Oh! so your hand on my heart pumping blood went limp”and oh! I flied! Oh swan inside.

It comes up from the ground just to haunt you It creeps up and no one else can see And the harder you try just to look the other way Well the harder it bites at your sanity All the anger you felt surging through you All the pain that you thought was behind you All the love you once felt, all the love that was gone It comes up from the ground just to haunt you

There's a forcefield round my neck Stand outside with a suitcase And it stands just where I sat Walk around all the while And the stance I took on that Look at the people driving backwards Leaves that forcefield round my back No particular style Don't let it get near you Don't let it get too close And the stance I took on that Don't let it turn you into Leaves a forcefield round my neck The things you hate the most Roll out your silver-dollar coffins Pull out your buckskin gloves Tell them anything you want to The sound comes from above Don't let it get near you Don't let it get too close And the stance I took on that Don't let it turn you into Leaves a forcefield round my neck The things you hate the most Don't let it get near you Don't let it get too close Don't let it turn you into The things you hate the most There's a forcefield round my neck And it stands just where I sat And the stance I took on that Leaves a forcefield round my neck There's a forcefield round my neck And it stands just where I've set And the stance I took on that Leaves a forcefield round my neck

Oh, person, person
 We're really missin' you
It breaks all of our hearts to know
That you just want to come on home
 So come on home

 The telephone
It just doesn't seem to do
 To let you know
 How much it's true
 That we love you
 Yeah, we love you

Oh, person, person, person Oh, person, person, person

 How's that wide river?
 Are the mountains doing fine?
 Can you smell the cottonwoods?
Is it huckleberry time?
 Is it huckleberry time?

You tell fast Eddy I say "how d'you do? "
Take a nap on a sandbar
And know we're dreaming of you too
Yeah, we're dreaming of you too

Oh, person, person, person Oh, person, person, person

 You give those glacier boats
 Some muscle driven hell
And make sure the captain stands up straight
When the river starts to swell
When the river starts to swell

Oh, person, person
 We're really missin' yo
u t breaks all of our hearts
 to know
That you just want to come on home
 So come on home

Oh, person person person Oh, person, person, person

When I go for a drive I like to pull off to the side Of the road, turn out the lights, get out and look up at the sky And I do this to remind me that I'm really, really tiny In the grand scheme of things and sometimes this terrifies me But it's only really scary cause it makes me feel serene In a way I never thought I'd be because I've never been So grounded, and so humbled, and so one with everything I am grounded, I am humbled, I am one with everything Rock and roll is fun but if you ever hear someone Say you are huge, look at the moon, look at the stars, look at the sun Look at the ocean and the desert and the mountains and the sky Say I am just a speck of dust inside a giant's eye I am just a speck of dust inside a giant's eye When I saw Geneviève I really liked it when she said What she said about the giant and the lemmings on the cliff She said 'I like giants Especially girl giants Cause all girls feel too big sometimes Regardless of their size' When I go for a drive I like to pull off to the side Of the road and run and jump into the ocean in my clothes *I'm smaller than a poppyseed inside a great big bowl And the ocean is a giant that can swallow me whole So I swim for all salvation and I swim to save my soul But my soul is just a whisper trapped inside a tornado So I flip to my back and I float and I sing I am grounded, I am humbled, I am one with everything I am grounded, I am humbled, I am one with everything So I talked to Geneviève and almost cried when she said That the giant on the cliff wished that she was dead And the lemmings on the cliff wished that they were dead So the giant told the lemmings why they ought to live instead When she thought up all those reasons that they ought to live instead It made her reconsider all the sad thoughts in her head So thank you Geneviève, cause you take what is in your head you make things that are so beautiful and share them with your friends We all become important when we realize our goal Should be to figure out our role within the context of the whole And yeah, rock and roll is fun, but if you ever hear someone Say you are huge, look at the moon, look at the stars, look at the sun Look at the ocean and the desert and the mountains and the sky Say I am just a speck of dust inside a giant's eye I am just a speck of dust inside a giant's eye I am just a speck of dust inside a giant's eye And I don't wanna make her cry Cause I like giants

“Mais que um EP ou mini-álbum, Out of Washington State é uma estação de serviço.
Uma pausa para esticar as pernas a meio de um percurso ascendente, álbum após álbum.
Gravado ao vivo por Pedro Magalhães em poucos takes e num só dia (05/07/12), aqui ficará documentado o ofício de quem nunca pára de tocar e reler e melhorar o que já está escrito, seja na estrada ou na sala de estar.
Aqui o ofício, em bruto.
Bastam as vozes, guitarra e ukulele.
Minta & The Brook Trout são o corpo contra a máquina.”

EN:

More than an EP or a mini-album, Out of Washington State is a service station.
A little break in the middle of a journey that’s steadily continued uphill, album after album.

Recorded live by Pedro Magalhães in a few takes and in a single day (July 5th 2012), here’s the record of the craft of people who never stop playing and re-reading what’s already written, either on the road or in the living room.
This is the craft, at its rawest.
Voices, guitar and ukulele are enough. Francisca Cortesão and Mariana Ricardo go after songs built in the north-American state whose capital (Olympia) they named their perfect 2012 album after. There are versions of songs by Beck, Kymia Dawson, Mirah, Mount Eerie with Julie Doiron and Fred Squire, and the long gone D+. There’re also new approaches to the band’s own “From the Ground" and Mariana Ricardo’s “And a One”.
It is out on September 23.
Let us wet our lips with champagne that day, and let us cry out: Lo-Fi Forever.
Minta & The Brook Trout are the body against the machine.
